The Bible is God’s Word to us. Though written by human authors, the very words written (in the original languages of the Scriptures) were inspired by God the Holy Spirit. It is our only source of absolute truth on which we base our Christian beliefs and living. There are no untruths or errors in the Scripture because it was inspired by God and God does not lie or make mistakes.
The Bible is God’s Word, inspired by the Holy Spirit.
“Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20-21)
The Bible contains no errors or untruths.
“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” (Proverbs 30:5)
“ ..a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, Who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time.” (Titus 1:2)
The Bible is the only foundation for Christian beliefs.
“What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 1:13)
The Bible is useful for training and equipping Christians for their daily lives and service in the kingdom.
“All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
The central teachings of the Bible are Law and Gospel. The Law teaches us that we are sinners, and because of our sin we are separated from God. The Gospel teaches us what God, in His grace, has done to cover our sin and bring us back to Himself.
“Through the Law we become conscious of sin.” (Romans 3:20b)
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
God speaks to us through His perfect Word, inspired by the Holy Spirit, so that we might know who He is, experience His love for us and know His purpose for our lives. The Bible reveals our sin, makes clear the only way of salvation, and is the foundation for all we believe, teach and live.
